About Meows & Purrs Feline Hospital

Meet Dr. Erica Unz

DVM

Hey there, and welcome to Meows & Purrs Feline Hospital!

My name is Dr. Erica and I am truly honored to be a veterinarian! While I didn’t begin my working career as a vet, it is truly my passion and I genuinely love what I do.

Before vet school, I started in human medicine as an EMT (emergency medical technician) working on ambulances, fire trucks and in emergency rooms. I credit that chapter of my life for developing my people skills, learning how to stay calm in emergencies, perform tasks under stress and communicate effectively. When I was transitioning out of emergency medicine, I studied massage therapy and worked in a medical spa. You might be noticing a theme by now, and that is I love working with people and serving. My mom has even told me on several occasions that I have a servant's heart.

Since I began my career as a veterinarian, I’ve spent much of my time in animal welfare and sheltering, working at some of largest non-profit organizations and municipal shelters in the country. Along the way I had the privilege of learning from many of shelter medicine’s industry leaders, who have all shaped me into the doctor I am today. I will always be grateful and promise to carry on in private practice with the same love and compassion for animals, remembering my humble roots.

I started Meows & Purrs Feline Hospital because cats have always been in the background while their canine counterparts received the spotlight, and I have a personal mission to make our feline friends the leading ladies and gentle cats of the future! Cats are not like dogs, and they require a different approach to their health and medical care – an approach that we have purrfected here at Meows & Purrs Feline Hospital. We are so excited to be here and am thrilled to be serving the South Florida (and beyond) feline population!
